Boating Tips • Wire ties are handy for bundling wires, for securing other things and keeping them out of the way, a zip tie can even be used as an emergency hose clamp. They come in plastic tubes in various sizes. • Keep a laminated list of important phone numbers on board, just in case. • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser removes black marks in the gelcoat. • To remove water spots use a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. • Always have someone on board that can operate the boat in case of emergency. • Use a wet rag with some vanilla extract on it to wipe down your cooler or refrigerator. • Drilling holes in fiberglass can be scary, try starting the drill in reverse to get through the gelcoat, and then drill normally. Finish by drilling the gelcoat with a larger bit so it doesn’t crack. • Need shades for those odd shaped portlights? Try a piece of cardboard cut to fit, cover it with vinyl or fabric to coordinate with your interior. • Mark your anchor line with colored wire ties at regular intervals to mark how much line is out. • Back up hand held GPS and VHF units are a good idea, but bring along extra batteries. • Keep a tube of burn ointment on board, in case of sunburn or burned skin in case anyone should come in contact with the hot engine. • Use stackable plastic storage bins to organize areas under berths and in bilges. Send us your tips for possible inclusion in our list.
